RIO DE JANEIRO, BRAZIL -- (Marketwire) -- 08/16/10 -- MPX Energia S.A. ("MPX" or "Company") (BOVESPA: MPXE3)(GDR I: MPXEY), a diversified utility company with a large portfolio of thermal energy projects, provides additional information to the market with respect to the Material Fact released on August 12, 2010, regarding the discovery of gas in the Parnaíba onshore basin.

In the previously released Material Fact, the Company announced (i) the discovery of gas in well OGX-16 in the PN-T-68 block, located in the Parnaíba Basin, (ii) the performance of a drill stem test which detected pressure of 1,900 psi and flame of 15 meters in height, and (iii) the identification of approximately 20 new prospects in the concession area, which encompasses seven exploratory blocks and an area of 21,000km².

In addition to the previously released information, MPX announces that, based on technical analysis, estimates potential resources of approximately 15 trillion cubic feet (Tcf) of natural gas in the area related to the 7 blocks held by OGX Maranhão, a joint venture between MPX (33.3%) and OGX Petróleo e Gás S.A. (66.6%). This estimate refers to potential resources, based on the identification through seismic data of nearly 20 prospects similar to the one drilled in well OGX-16.

Additionally, considering the studies and analysis mentioned above, OGX Maranhão estimates that this potential volume could correspond to a production capacity of approximately 15 million cubic feet of natural gas per day.

With the announcement of this discovery, the Company has revised its exploratory campaign and increased the estimated number of wells to be drilled to 15 from 7, as well as intensified the 2D and 3D seismic shooting campaign in the area. In this context, the Company now estimates an investment of between R$600 and R$700 million for the exploratory campaign in the Parnaíba Basin.

The MPX Parnaiba power generation complex, a partnership between MPX (70%) and PETRA Energia S.A. (30%), consists of gas-fired plants that are expected to provide up to 1,863 MW of power. The complex will be fueled by the gas produced in the blocks and has already been granted the Preliminary License.
