Washington DC metro area city and county programs provide free Christmas tree recycling to residents of the District of Columbia, Fairfax County, Arlington County, City of Falls Church, City of Alexandria, and other surrounding areas.

Washington, DC, December 28, 2011 --(PR.com)-- Residents of several Washington DC areas can recycle Christmas trees for free beginning January 2, 2012. Some areas, such as Loudoun County, offer drop off locations open to tree delivery even sooner. These programs are conducted through local city and county services, several of which recycle trees into mulch that is available for free to residents for gardening and landscaping. Residents must be sure to remove lights, ornaments, tinsel, and avoid placing trees in bags as these items disrupt grinding and contaminate the mulch produced by recycling. City of Alexandria, VA: Residents who receive city trash services may leave trees at curbside on two Saturdays, January 10 and 17, by 7:00am for recycling collection. City of Falls Church, VA: Free curbside pick-ups will run on Wednesdays through January and February except for holidays. Residents of apartments and condominiums must take their trees to the brush section of the Fairfax County Citizens' Recycling Facility at 4618 West Ox Rd in Fairfax, VA. District of Columbia, Washington DC: Free curbside pick-ups will run January 3-14, 2012. After January 14, trees are not recycled but can be picked up with trash on regular delivery days as space in the trucks allows. Find details at http://dpw.dc.gov/dc/dpw.

Arlington County, VA: Residents enrolled for curbside recycling programs may leave holiday trees for free pick-up from January 3--17 on regular refuse days. Residents who do not have these services may drop trees off at the Solid Waste Bureau at 4300 S. 29th St. in Arlington, VA; bring proof of Arlington County residence, and beforehand, call (703) 228-6570 to make an appointment. Fairfax County, VA: Free curbside pick-ups run the first two weeks of January for trees smaller than eight feet. For larger trees, contact regular trash collectors for recycling information. Find details at www.fairfaxcounty.gov.

Loudoun County, VA: Several drop off locations are accepting trees December 26, 2011--January 19, 2011. The trees are recycled into mulch available to county residents free of charge. Find details at www.loudoun.gov.
