November soybeans were up 2 3/4 cent late in the overnight session. Malaysia palm futures closed 0.5% lower, while China soybean futures closed 0.4% lower. Outside market forces look mixed to somewhat negative today, with a firm US dollar but mixed trade in other commodity markets. The weather overnight showed heavy rains for parts of northern Illinois and Michigan, as traders see rains shifting towards the south and east during the next few days although rain amounts could be limited. Iowa and Northern Illinois do not need rain but central and southern areas of Illinois, Indiana and Ohio are in need of some precipitation or else stressful conditions will be in place going into next week. Parts of the Delta are also expected to receive some rain over the next 5 days. Weather news seems to be very mixed, as bulls and bears will have something to discuss. November soybeans closed moderately lower on the session yesterday, as traders viewed the weather outlook and the strong US dollar as negative forces. Cooler and wetter weather for the northern two-thirds of the Corn Belt during the next week has many traders looking for improving crop conditions into early August, which was seen as pressuring the market. The weather outlook going into early August is less threatening, which also may have helped to pressure the market. A strong Dollar rally put heavy pressure on soybeans, but prices held above Tuesday's lows. The prospects for declining yields in many regions due to this season's heat wave provided some support for the market, as forecasts for above-normal temperatures later on this week will likely put further stress on this season's crop in areas which have received little rain. Rain over Illinois did not reach south enough to help central areas of the states where soybean conditions have deteriorated during the past few weeks. Traders indicate some buying from China this week and from Argentina, and will monitor the weekly Export Sales news this morning as well as monthly Census Crush data for June as both reports are released before the opening.
