  • Foxes reportedly planning to hold new contract talks with Maddison
  • The Red Devils' chances of getting Maddison just took a big hit
  • The Red Devils are focusing on some other big name player

Manchester United still has several players on their radar, but it appears a big one may be off the table soon. James Maddison has been frequently linked to a move to Old Trafford, but all the talks could be coming to an abrupt end.

Leicester City reportedly plans to restart talks with the English football player, who could end up doubling his weekly pay of around $190,000. With heftier numbers, the Red Devils may be forced to pass and move on to their next targets.

According to the Daily Mail, the Foxes plan to restart contract talks with Maddison soon. There were already discussions that took place some months ago before the COVID-19 pandemic forced football action to be suspended on March 13. Being one of the star players of King Power Stadium this season, a new deal could finally put a stop to speculations of the 23-year-old possibly moving to United.

But even before the planned resumption of contract talks, Maddison had already indicated in April that he was staying with Leicester City. He has grown to love the place since arriving in 2018.

He remains under contract until 2023, but it appears a better one will come his way. And the obvious reason behind that is to fend off interest from United and other teams who may have plans to add him to their roster.

Ole Gunnar Solskjaer had already given up the chase for the English booter even before Maddison answered that question on social media. He got word of Maddison being pretty happy with the Foxes and found that it may be best to focus on other targets. But the latest on the Red Devils is that they may be done adding new players to the mix for now.

After finalizing the deal to keep Odion Ighalo, United is reportedly content with the crew they have right now. And while most teams are pressed for cash, it appears Solskjaer is eyeing an even bigger target in the next transfer window. Jadon Sancho is a player they tried to get last year but failed. But now, it appears the Red Devils are diverting their funds to get the 20-year-old winger.

United chief executive Ed Woodward has allegedly allocated funds for a big-time move via $175 million loan withdrawal. This would be added to the club's $112 million cash reserves, meaning a high-profile player could be coming to Old Trafford soon.
