SANTA BARBARA, Calif., Sept. 18, 2012 /PRNewswire/ -- More and more filmmakers are turning to Kickstarter to fund or finish their films. The film and video category is Kickstarter's largest, with over $86 million raised to date.
A growing list of name talent - Mark Duplass, Paul Schraeder, Whoopi Goldberg and Charlie Kaufman - have turned to Kickstarter, shunning the Hollywood system in favor of the independent spirit at Kickstarter. Kaufman's project, an animated film titled Anomalisa, recently raised over $406,000.
"Kickstarter is a great match for independent films," said Brian Neufang, a producer with Arriba Films. "Not only are they easy to work with, but from a funding standpoint, their reach is growing every day. Kickstarter now has over 570,000 Twitter followers and 360,000 on Facebook."
Arriba's INGENIOUS has been featured in fifteen name Festivals and has received glowing reviews.
"A terrific yarn, a uniquely American movie. Renner and Robers are sublimely cast. Could become an indie success story."Lael Lowenstein - VARIETY
"Great script and inspired performances."Kim Voynar - MUSIC CITY NEWS
"We've received offers from major US distributors," Neufang said, "but for limited releases then VOD. We feel this movie merits a wide theatrical release, particularly with Jeremy Renner's popularity."
INGENIOUS is based on a true story. Two life-long friends, Matt (Roberts - "The Grey"), a small-time inventor, and Sam (Renner - "The Bourne Legacy"), a slick salesman, hit rock bottom before coming up with a product that becomes a worldwide phenomenon.
"But the movie isn't about the product," said Neufang. "It's about perseverance, not giving up on your dreams."
"That's why we turned to Kickstarter," Neufang said. "The place where dreams go."
The trailer and synopsis of INGENIOUS can be seen on the Kickstarter page.
