WARNING: SPOILERS AHEAD! Do NOT continue reading unless you’ve watched the season 4 Halloween episode of “Pretty Little Liars.”

The season 4 Halloween episode of “Pretty Little Liars” ended with a major jaw-dropper … Red Coat took off her hood and revealed herself to be none other than Alison DiLaurentis. The twist? Alison supposedly died before the ABC Family show even started.

Hanna, Spencer, Aria and Emily have been searching for Red Coat for the past four seasons, believing that their dead friend Alison could possibly still be alive. The Liars finally discovered that Alison IS alive and has been running around town in a red coat. But they still don’t know why.

“Did you miss me?” Alison asked her friends when they came face to face with her upon their return to Rosewood. With the girls confused, Alison told them that she didn’t have much time.

“It’s not safe for me to be here,” she continued. “I want to come home, but you have to help me.”

Before they could ask her how they could help, Alison said one more thing before disappearing: “Remember what I told you at the hospital, Hanna.”

So, what did Alison tell Hanna in the hospital?

“Pretty Little Liars” fans will remember that the hospital visit Alison is talking about happened in season 1 episode 11, “Moments Later.” The episode found Hanna in the hospital with a broken leg after being hit by a car the night of Mona’s glamping party. Drugged up to help with the pain, Hanna thought she had a hallucination of Alison in a candy striper uniform in her hospital room … but it turned out to really be her.

Alison: “Did you miss me?”

Hanna: “Ali? They said you were dead.”

Alison: “Yeah, I heard that, too. But here I am.”

Hanna: “What happened to you?”

Alison: “It’s complicated, Hanna. Really complicated. Worse than algebra.”

Hanna: “What happened when you left the barn? We all wanna know.”

Alison: “You already do. The four of you combined … you remember more about that night than you think you do.”

Hanna: “Where did you go … to meet a boy? Noel?”

Alison: “Noel? Please…”

Hanna: “Please, just tell me the truth.”

Alison: “It won’t make any difference, darling.”

Hanna: “How can you say that?”

Alison: “Because I know. You think the truth is some big shiny disco ball of purity? Then go ahead and try it. Be honest, see what it gets you. Telling the truth to the wrong person at the wrong time is how I ended up where I am. Take it from me …you’re always better off with a really good lie.”

Alison: “Gotta go.”

Hanna: “Where?”

Alison: “I was so scared that you were gonna die. That’s why I came back. I didn’t care how dangerous it was, I had to see you. … You know, I really should do something about A. That b**ch is genuinely getting on my nerves.”

The “truth” that Alison spoke about in the hospital is up for interpretation until “Pretty Little Liars” clears it up. Theories on what Alison was talking about range from being stalked, to the mysterious “board shorts” to Alison having a twin. What do you think Alison was talking about?
