Is Nicole still alive? That’s the question on the minds of “Pretty Little Liars” fans after episode 5.
The Freeform series took this past Tuesday off, but the episode before was a big one for Ezria shippers. By the end of episode 5, Ezra (Ian Harding) got down on one knee to propose to Aria (Lucy Hale) — but something very important happened before that. While Ezra was out of his apartment, Aria discovered that “Nicole” (Rebecca Breeds) was calling his cellphone. She picked up the call, but didn’t hear a woman’s voice on the other end. The only thing she was able to make out was a busy foreign street. Aria spoke to Emily (Shay Mitchell) about it and decided to delete the call to spare Ezra any pain. After all, a dead girl can’t make long distance calls. But as every “Pretty Little Liars” fan knows, people don’t stay dead in Rosewood.
Episode 6 will air this Tuesday and reveal whether Aria will accept Ezra’s proposal. But it’s the synopsis for episode 7 that is really juicy. The episode is titled “Original G’A’ngsters” and teases that Ezra will get a “call about someone in his past.” With a town like Rosewood, the call could be coming from anyone. However, the episode description adds that this mysterious call “could change his course.”
Is the called Nicole? Will Ezra drop everything — including Aria — to be with her? “Pretty Little Liars” fans will have to wait until the episode airs on Tuesday, Aug. 9.
Nicole was never a main character on the Freeform series, and was only briefly introduced in Season 6 as a friend of Emily’s from Habitat for Humanity. She showed up in Rosewood in an attempt to recruit Emily for a project in Thailand, but Emily turned down the trip to stay in town with Sara (Dre Davis). Nicole didn’t leave empty handed, though. She met Ezra, who later decided to join her in Columbia. The two started to date. However, she went missing while abroad.
Ezra had returned home before she disappeared, and it was believed that she had been kidnapped or murdered. Although her body was never found, everyone had seemingly given up hope on finding her. A funeral was even held for her.
Ezra took Nicole’s disappearance hard. He struggled with his second book because of it, but was eventually able to open up to Aria. After a while the two rekindled their relationship, and Ezra even went to Nicole’s parents to tell them he was moving on.
