"Princess Diaries" 3 has been rumored to be happening for years now. But while there's no official word on the third installment yet, all the cast members are eager to return for another Princess Mia movie.

Hector Elizondo recently told Variety Latino that he would love to reprise his role as Mia's (Anne Hathaway) bodyguard Joe if "Princess Diaries 3" gets green-lit. “It’s not official, but certainly, everybody wants it done. It’s been discussed," he told the publication. "Gary talked to me – may he rest in peace – about his involvement in it. I know Annie would like to do it. I know Julie would like to do it. I would like to do it. So we’re on board, it’s a question of when and a question of getting a good story. I’m ready! It’s time to go back to Genovia!"

This comes after the director of "Princess Diaries," the late Garry Marshall, shared that he has discussed the possibility of a third movie with lead stars Hathaway and Julie Andrews, who plays Mia's grandmother, Queen Clarisse. “I was with Anne Hathaway a couple weeks ago, it looks like we want to do 'Princess Diaries 3' in Manhattan. Anne Hathaway is very pregnant, so we have to wait until she has the baby and then I think we’re going to do it," he told People magazine in March.

Marshall also stopped by for a chat on "Larry King Now" in April and talked about the possibility of a third movie, saying, “Well, they talk about it. Disney always likes to announce things, so they tell Garry, ‘Shut up, we’ll announce it.’ [Anne Hathaway] came to my office, she was quite pregnant…she puts her computer on the table, pushes three buttons, there’s Julie Andrews on Skype in Long Island. And we have a meeting.”

Chris Pine, who swept Mia off her feet as Nicholas Devereaux in "Royal Engagement," also seems to be board with it. Earlier this year, a fan asked the "Wonder Woman" star during a Tumblr Q&A, “Don’t you pray every night for a Princess Diaries 3?” Pine responded, “Have you been reading my diary???”

But while the main cast appear to be eager to return, Marshall's death may push back "Princess Diaries 3" as the project would need a new director. Elizondo, who was close friends with Marshall and starred in 18 of his movies, said he would prefer having a female director take over the helm.

“I’d love it to be a woman [director],” the actor shared. “We don’t have enough of them. That would be nice. First, you have to have a good story. Whoever directs it has to understand the story. God knows there are female directors out there. That would be lovely. I’m sure they’ll come up with a more than competent director.”
