BroadSoft CTO to Discuss Open Networks at Telephony Live

GAITHERSBURG, Md., Sept. 30 /PRNewswire/ -- BroadSoft, Inc., the leadingprovider of VoIP application software, announces that Scott Hoffpauir,BroadSoft chief technology officer (CTO), will serve as a panelist atTelephony Live: The 2008 Telecom Summit.

The afternoon general session, titled, "How open should I be?" willexplore the rapid advancements in technology that are changing the face ofcommunications, thereby forcing open communications between technologyproviders and carriers. With VoIP and open networks, regulators, consumers andInternet-based companies are demanding integrated and accessiblecommunications. The panel will address how open carriers need to be and how itaffects the business as a whole.

BroadSoft announced BroadSoft Xtended, an initiative created to highlightthe integration of voice and Web 2.0 technologies in March. The initiativedrives new innovative applications into the hands of BroadWorks(R) VoIPapplication platform service providers and end-users by making them availableonline through the establishment of the BroadSoft Xtended Marketplace, thefirst of its kind for the telecommunications industry.

The BroadSoft Xtended initiative attracted the interest of leadingtechnology companies including Salesforce.com and Simulscribe, as well asdevelopers and partners who have created integrated solutions for popularbusiness and consumer applications, including WebEx, Facebook, and ACT! bySage. These new mashups with BroadWorks calling features are available on theXtended Marketplace, a community where service providers and end-users alikecan access applications, participate in discussion forums and shareintegration ideas with developers.

Telephony Live takes place Sept. 30 and Oct. 1 at the Chicago EmbassySuites in Chicago. Moderated by Telephony Magazine Reporter Rich Karpinski,the panel will discuss key emerging trends that are the talk of the telecomindustry.

Targeted to service providers navigating the highly competitive telecommarketplace, the two-day event will focus on practical approaches to adoptingnew technology, including Web services and IT expertise.

As CTO, Hoffpauir is responsible for guiding the technical vision anddirection for BroadSoft as well as promoting continuous product innovation. Heis a BroadSoft co-founder and has served as CTO since 1998.

Before joining BroadSoft, Hoffpauir was director of GSM development atCelcore (DSC/Alcatel USA). In this role, he was responsible for all productdevelopment on the GSM switching product, including system architecture,product requirements, software development, hardware development, systemtest/integration and product/customer support. Prior to Celcore, Hoffpauir wassenior architect for Nortel's GSM and Inter-Exchange Carrier switchingsystems. Hoffpauir holds multiple patents in the GSM, SIP, call processing andswitching areas.

He is a graduate of the University of Louisiana Lafayette.
