Kaine, Allen to Debate Which Party's Energy Policy is Best for Nation, Voters

CHANTILLY, Va., Oct. 6 /PRNewswire/ -- Two Virginia governors will take tothe mat on Oct. 15 in a first-of-its-kind event to discuss how the candidates'energy plans will help or hurt the economy. Gov. Tim Kaine (D) and former Gov.George Allen (R), representing the Democratic and the Republican presidentialcampaigns, will argue the merits of their parties' platforms on nationalenergy and environmental policy at the Washington Dulles Airport Marriott.Moderating will be former White House correspondent Norah O'Donnell, chiefWashington correspondent for NBC News' 24-hour cable channel, MSNBC.

The debate is the first to focus on energy and environmental policy, oneof the three top concerns of voters in this election. The event, hosted by theEnvironmental Committee of the Dulles Regional Chamber of Commerce, will takeplace in the heart of the Dulles Corridor -- one of the hottest growth areasin the nation. Northern Virginia, the economic engine of a likely swing state,faces in microcosm all the energy and environmental issues facing the nation,from renewable energy supply, energy shortages and traffic congestion tooffshore drilling, mining, water quality and water supply problems. Thisissue-specific debate will offer a rare opportunity -- possibly the only one-- to hear exactly how Sen. Barack Obama (D) and Sen. John McCain (R) differin their approaches to these critical concerns of businesses and consumers, asKaine and Allen take the stage for their party's candidates.
