Judicial Recount Terminated in the Electoral District of Esquimalt-Juan de Fuca

OTTAWA, ONTARIO -- (Marketwire) -- 10/28/08 -- The Chief Electoral Officer of Canada, Marc Mayrand, announced today that a judicial recount of the votes in Esquimalt-Juan de Fuca (British Columbia) was terminated at the request of the applicant, after a partial recount was conducted. As a result, the same validated results stand and Keith Martin, the candidate of the Liberal Party of Canada, remains the elected candidate.

At the 40th general election held on October 14, 2008, the difference between the Liberal Party of Canada candidate, Keith Martin, and the Conservative Party of Canada candidate, Troy DeSouza, was 68 votes in favour of Keith Martin.

The following are the results for all candidates in the riding of Esquimalt-Juan de Fuca:

Elections Canada is an independent body set up by Parliament.
