Worldwide, It's a Landslide for Obama: hi5.com Global Survey of 25,000 Users Shows 83% Favor Obama as the Next President of the United States
SAN FRANCISCO, CA -- (Marketwire) -- 10/30/08 -- hi5, one of the world's largest andfastest-growing social networks, today released results from a worldwidesurvey of members. The overwhelming results revealed that the internationalcommunity favors Senator Barack Obama by 83% as the next president of theUnited States of America.
The survey was conducted from October 23 to October 28 by hi5 Networks. TheSan Francisco company's popular hi5.com web site is the third-largestsocial networking site in the world, with over 58 million monthly uniquevisitors according to comScore. The survey was representative ofapproximately 25,000 respondents in 192 countries around the globe.
"Social networking sites such as hi5 are providing users around the worldwith a platform to share their voice and opinions with their friends,family and the broader Internet community," said Ramu Yalamanchi, CEO ofhi5. "This global survey provides an interesting perspective on how theworld is viewing the upcoming US election."
Key Findings From the Survey:
Although Obama had a substantial lead in all parts of the world, the marginwas less pronounced in some regions. Europe, North America, and Africa weremost strongly pro-Obama (at 87%, 87%, and 88%, respectively), followed byAsia (83%), Latin America (81%), and South Asia (85%). The region that wasmost sympathetic to Senator John McCain was the Middle East -- where only58% supported Obama compared to 25% support for McCain.
About the Survey:
The survey was conducted by hi5 through a random, opt-in sampling of hi5members, totaling approximately 25,000 responses. A translated entry badgewas placed on the hi5 homepage based on the geographic location of theuser. The survey was conducted in eight languages, including English,Spanish, French, German, Portuguese, Japanese, Thai, and Chinese. Out ofall survey participants, 59% were male and 41% were female. The agebreakdown is as follows: 13-18 (45.4%), 19-25 (34.5%), 26-35 (13.6%), 35-44(4.2%), 45+ (2.3%).

"If I were American, I would vote for Barack Obama because he is an honestman and wants to do what's best for his country and for the whole world,"said a 17-year-old Iraqi male.
"I would vote for Barack Obama [because] he obviously seems like the rightman to really get America on its feet again," said a teenager from theCaribbean.
"If I lived in the States, I'd certainly vote for Obama. I think he has avision. He's much more open-minded than McCain," said a 17-year-old femalein Greece.
