With the DVD holiday release of the film, and now the new album,SHOPOCALYPSE, Reverend Billy hopes both the Church's music and movie caninspire discussion about our lives outside of shopping and advertising --especially in light of our monumental debt collapse and reeling globalmarkets.

"Change-a-lujah! Americans are swamped by mortgage defaults and creditcard bills, but for every flood there is a Noah with an Ark of salvation,"said Reverend Billy. "Actually, this could be an apocalypse that isultimately good for us. Apocalypse comes from the Greeks and it means, assystems break down, that everything is revealed and the truth emerges."

Still, this Reverend sees more fire and brimstone in the future. "For manyof us, Wal-Mart is the only store with safety pins or barbeque grills orgeneric sleeping pills within a hundred miles. We're trapped in the WallStreet-financed economy -- the products come from faraway sweatshops,shipped here in an emissions-intense way, with saturation advertising andhazardous materials."

Yet Reverend Billy is heartened by the emails he's received from familieswho've seen WHAT WOULD JESUS BUY? and have embraced the message that "youdon't have to buy a gift to give a gift." They are pledging to "buy lessand give more," escaping the overcrowded super-malls to supportindependent, local shops and spend time with their families.
