Tamalpais Union High School District Deploys Aruba Networks' Wi-Fi Solutions in Every Classroom Across All of Its Campuses
District Sold on Management User Interface and Myriad Options for Access Control and Authentication
SUNNYVALE, CA -- (Marketwire) -- 11/11/08 -- Aruba Networks, Inc. (NASDAQ: ARUN), a globalleader in wireless LANs and secure mobility solutions, today announced thatthe Tamalpais Union High School District in Marin County, California, hasdeployed Aruba's Wi-Fi networks across all of the district's campuses. Thedistrict wanted to provide ubiquitous and secure wireless to mergetechnology into the day-to-day classroom experience and eliminatestand-alone computer labs. Following a request for proposal, Aruba wasselected for the project based on its competitive pricing, integratedsecurity, and easy-to-use network management.
"Offering wireless access in every classroom affords teachers with theopportunity to use laptops and wireless devices in novel ways," said JoelHames, the Tamalpais Union High School District's Senior Director ofInformation Technology. "To accomplish this we needed to provideubiquitous wireless access with integrated security to preserve networkintegrity and privacy. Our previous wireless efforts were ad-hoc, at best, with staff members bringing wireless access points as needed to solvespecific access issues. We selected Aruba because the platform offered acomprehensive suite of tools for managing and maintaining our wirelessnetwork. The management user interface, myriad options for access controland authentication, and the fantastic references all convinced us thatAruba's solution was far superior to the others we were considering."
The district's installation included three MMC-6000 Multi-Service MobilityControllers, 175 access points, and the AirWave Management Platform. Allclassrooms and common areas have Wi-Fi access. Aruba's security systemidentified and eliminated dozens of rogue access points, while the AirWavesystem centrally manages and monitors both the secure internal network andthe guest network for use by non-District users.
Aruba's mobility solutions securely deliver networks to users byintegrating adaptive wireless LANs, identity-based security, voice overWi-Fi solutions, and multi-vendor network management into a cohesive,high-performance system. By automatically adjusting the Wi-Fi network toaccommodate user behavior, interference, and nearby networks, Arubasimplifies wireless LAN set-up and operation.
"Many school districts are deploying mobile computer carts and handhelddevices together with interactive learning applications foranytime/anywhere learning," said Robert Fenstermacher, Aruba's head ofeducation marketing. "Making the most of these mobile teaching resourcesrequires pervasive and reliable wireless access. School systems, like theTamalpais Union High School District, increasingly turn to Aruba forwireless solutions because our networks offer both the best value andbest-in-class performance."
