AT&T Announces Winner of Fast-Pitch New England Mobile Applications Developer Competition

FRAMINGHAM, Mass., Nov. 13 /PRNewswire-FirstCall/ -- And the winner isVlingo (http://www.vlingo.com). Today AT&T Inc. (NYSE: T), the nation'sleading wireless service provider, announced that Cambridge based Vlingo hasbeen awarded first place in AT&T's Fast-Pitch New England mobile applicationdeveloper competition. Vlingo receives a $10,000 cash prize and theopportunity to be considered for wider distribution, reaching millions ofcustomers on one of AT&T's mobile Internet portals. Vlingo by Vlingo is avoice-powered user interface that unlocks access to mobile phone wireless dataservices.

"Our customers crave cool mobile applications and we want to provide themwith the choice and opportunity to use apps that were created right here inNew England," said Steve Krom, vice president and general manager of AT&T inNew England. "We had a lot of fun at last night's finals event and all of thecompetitors came ready to win. Without a doubt, our first localized versionof Fast-Pitch was a success."

The three AT&T Fast-Pitch New England finalists were selected from dozensof entries and were all Massachusetts based. Last night at the finals eventin Framingham, FreeFamilyWatch.com of Braintree; Mobicious of Needham andVlingo of Cambridge, were each given 15 minutes to "Fast-Pitch" theirapplication and business case to a panel of AT&T executives and industryinfluencers including representatives from Bain Capital(http://www.baincapital.com/), the Boston Business Journal(http://boston.bizjournals.com/boston), Flybridge Capital Partners(http://www.flybridge.com) and Motorola (http://www.motorola.com/us).

The Massachusetts Network Communications Council (MassNet Comms)(http://www.massnetcomms.org), Mass Technology Leadership Council (Mass TLC)(http://www.masstlc.org/), and Mass Innovation & Technology Exchange (MITX)(http://www.mitx.org) also joined AT&T as Sponsor Partners for Fast-Pitch NewEngland.

Fast-Pitch New England is designed to promote the local tech communitywhile underscoring AT&T's commitment to innovation. In addition to a GrandPrize of $10,000, the winner will be promoted in-store at all AT&T company-owned retail locations in New England, receive application placement on theAT&T devCentral website (http://developer.att.com) for developers and receivepromotional placement on http://www.att.com/choice. AT&T will also fast-trackthe winning application for wider distribution consideration on one of AT&T'smobile Internet portals, accessible to the company's nearly 75 millionwireless customers.

While AT&T has held similar national competitions in the past, Fast-PitchNew England is AT&T's first locally-based mobile application contest.
