SUNNYVALE, CA -- (Marketwire) -- 11/18/08 -- Aruba Networks, Inc. (NASDAQ: ARUN), a globalleader in wireless LANs and secure mobility solutions, today announced thatthe University of Cambridge has selected and is deploying Aruba's wirelessLAN equipment to provide hotspot and wireless service across theuniversity. The university's legacy network had become unmanageable and itsmaintenance a drain on resources. As a result the University ComputingService, which runs the wireless service, issued a tender for a replacementnetwork. Aruba was selected for the project because its centralizedmanagement minimized deployment and support costs, and its Remote AccessPoint (RAP) technology created an extensive "private" network with localbridging to IT resources and services within each college. The Universityalso plans to implement voice applications leveraging Aruba's voice qualityof service (QoS) feature. Support services are being provided to theUniversity by Vanix, an Aruba-authorized integrator.

The University of Cambridge, founded almost 800 years ago, is one of theworld's oldest universities and is today a leading academic centercomprised of 31 colleges. Each college is an independent institution withits own property and income. The Network Division of the University'sComputing Service Department acts as a service provider and works with thecolleges and departments to provide a wireless hotspot service, "Lapwing,"through which students and faculty members access the university'sadministrative and learning resources.

"Since we serve many masters, it is paramount that the University ComputingService's wireless network be adaptable to a wide range of needs, simple tomanage with minimal staff overhead, self-adjusting to accommodatedynamically changing local conditions, and cost effective for our clients, the colleges," said Bob Franklin, Network Division, University ComputingService. "Aruba's wireless architecture minimized the time required forour initial deployment and has delivered robust Wi-Fi performance eversince. The network's centralized management and RAP technology aresupremely scalable with a minimum number of controllers, and have cut oursupport overhead costs by minimizing field visits. As a result theUniversity's Network Division can support a greatly expanded network withits existing staff while simultaneously passing operating expense savingsdirectly to the colleges."

Aruba's secure mobility solutions deliver networks to users by integratingadaptive wireless LANs, identity-based security, remote networking andfixed mobile convergence, and multi-vendor network management into acohesive, high-performance system. Adaptive wireless LANs deliver robustconnectivity to roaming users in need of high-speed data, toll-qualityvoice, and streaming video applications. Identity-based security associatespolicies with users instead of network hardware, delivering follow-mesecurity that enhances mobility regardless of how or where the network isaccessed.

"The University Computing Service has a challenging role to play as aservice provider because they must accommodate a wide range of needs -- andtherefore need a feature rich architecture with tremendous flexibility --all the while keeping a lid on costs," said Bob Vickers, Aruba's UK salesdirector. "Aruba's centralized architecture, RAP technology, VLAN pooling, and scalability address both today's and future needs, at a highlycompetitive price. We're delighted to welcome the University of Cambridgeinto our fast expanding universe of higher education customers, and lookforward to serving their growing wireless requirements."
