Users who upload their FREE listings directly onto handmedowns.com receive priority on the site. Categories range from infant swings to toddler clothing to nannies. "Gently used" items, which the site defines as those in "very good condition with no rips, tears, stains or broken parts" are encouraged. Safety is heavily promoted, and a link to a government recall site is provided to avoid unsafe items from getting posted. As a bonus, the site's recycling of second-hand goods helps the environment.

Handmedowns.com's CEO and founder, Norah Weinstein, who is a lawyer and founded The Hollywood Reporter, ESQ., is a mom who was frustrated with searching online for much needed items for her 14-month-old daughter. "The classified sites that were available had some great listings, but were not designed with parents in mind. Moms are too busy to sift through thousands of listings to find the items they need, especially those in good enough condition for their children.
