RE2, Inc. Selected for Participation in the U.S. Army Commercialization Pilot Program to Productize Its Small Robot Toolkit
PITTSBURGH, PA -- (Marketwire) -- 11/18/08 -- RE2, Inc., a leading developer ofintelligent modular manipulation systems, announced today that it wasselected to participate in the U.S. Army Commercialization Pilot Program(CPP) to accelerate the commercialization of the Small Robot Toolkit (SRT)developed under a Phase II Small Business Innovation Research (SBIR)program. The U.S. Army established the SBIR Commercialization PilotProgram (CPP) in response to the 2006 National Defense Authorization Act toincrease Army SBIR technology transition and commercialization success.The CPP provides highly focused funding and direct support from experiencedbusiness professionals to help accelerate the fielding of capabilities toSoldiers. The program also benefits the nation through stimulatedtechnological innovation, improved manufacturing capability, and increasedcompetition, productivity, and economic growth.

RE2 plans to use the CPP resources to enhance, test, and productize the SRTmodular manipulator arm and derivative technologies, including the RE2End-Effector Retrofit Kit. The RE2 End-Effector Retrofit Kit is afield-upgrade kit that makes it possible to use plug-n-play end-effectortools on currently fielded and next-generation robots. The Retrofit Kitreplaces the robot's existing gripper with a hand-tightened RE2Quick-Release, which can be used to mount a variety of mission-specificend-effector tools. The RE2 Quick-Release technology is a component of theSRT and was developed under the Phase II SBIR.
