DON CAVALLI
"Cryland"
Released APRIL 22 2008
Point of Origin: ile-de-France (Greater Paris)
Recorded in a Parisian flea-market, Don Cavalli's debut "Cryland" soundslike a lost musical treasure unearthed from hours of crate digging. The 35year old Cavalli, (who holds a day job in Paris as a green thumb) hasingested the sound of American rock and roll only to growl it back to us ina patois entirely his own. The result is a disarming musical hybrid thatweaves funky blues, zydeco, shuffling skiffle beats and 60s garage-soulgrooves.

***** -- London Independent (10/17/2008)
"It's hard enough as it is to learn another language, so give France's DonCavalli bonus points for nailing Americana roots and blues with a fat-asshammer. His stripped-down hybrid Cajun swing owes as much to his laptop asit does to his soulful pipes, which recall everyone from Jimmy Cliff toLeadbelly. From front to back, his postmodern folk music is a blast fromour mutually repurposed past." -- XLR8R

"Ms. George muses on love, yearning and separation in lyrics that can beingenuous or surreal: "I'm breaking up our house for firewood." MeanwhileMr. Parks surrounds her ballads and waltzes with a nonstop counterpoint ofmelodies and of allusions: parlor songs, tangos, fanfares, chamber music, show tunes. With no drums there's no explicit beat, and the orchestraunfolds continuous variations and metamorphoses. Her voice, always at thecenter, clings to the neat curves of her tunes; around her, as in herromances, everything is in flux." -- NEW YORK TIMES

"B.I.P.P.P.: FrenchSynthwave 1979-85"
Released FEBRUARY 12 2008
Point of Origin: Paris, France
Everloving's U.S. release of "B.I.P.P.P.," originally curated and compiledby Parisian indie label Born Bad, introduce Maries Moor, Deux, Ruth andothers to a global audience who are listening to new releases that even in2008, draw heavily from the robotic electro of the late 70s and 80s. Casein point, Busy P (aka Ed Banger label head Pedro Winter) recently released"Rainbow Man," a song framed around a sample of Comix/TGV's "Touche Pas MonSexe." An influential blueprint for the evolution of the French electronicmusic genre at large, the majority of the performers featured on"B.I.P.P.P.: French Synth-Wave 1979-1985" never made it beyond limited DIYpressings of 500 or 1000 copies of 7" vinyl singles.
"The 'Nuggets' of French electronica" -- VICE
"Obscurantists and beard-strokers, we've got the record for you: 'Esoteric'would be a generous way to describe the compilation, which delves into thewacky subgenre of Synthwave, a blippy, beepy off-shoot of New Wave thatemerged in France in the late '70s. Though not much here will ring manybells -- most of the songs were culled from obscure 7-inch singles by actswith the longevity of fruit flies -- the collection as a whole is averitable treasure trove of post-nuclear pop: Ruth's 'Polaroid-Roman-Photo'is an infectious 'Je T'aime Moi Non Plus' for the technocratic age,Visible's 'Le Jour Se Leve' is a bleak, tinny, march-of-the-robots anthem;and Comix's 'Touch Pas Mon Sexe' is a masterpiece of Devo-esque nerd-rock."-- INTERVIEW MAGAZINE
