REMINDER: MAKOplasty(R) Robotic Arm Partial Knee Resurfacing -- A New Level of Precision
OR-Live Webcast From St. Elizabeth Community Hospital: December 1, 2008, 3:00 PM PST
RED BLUFF, CA -- (Marketwire) -- 12/01/08 -- A live surgical webcast of MAKOplasty®robotic arm partial knee resurfacing will be presented by Thomas M. Coon,M.D. and St. Elizabeth Community Hospital on December 1st at 3:00 p.m. PST.MAKOplasty® is a new, minimally invasive partial knee resurfacingprocedure used to treat early tomid-stage knee osteoarthritis that offers a more precise and consistentresult that can provide relief.
The opportunity for early intervention is important as osteoarthritis isthe most common form of arthritis and the leading cause of disabilityworldwide, according to the American Academy of Orthopedic Surgeons.
MAKOplasty® takes partial knee resurfacing to a new level of precision. It is enabled by the Tactile Guidance System(TM) (TGS(TM)), asurgeon-interactive tactile robotic arm and 3-D visualization system.
The TGS(TM) allows the surgeon to make a pre-surgical plan that details thetechnique for bone preparation and implant positioning using a CT scan ofthe patient's knee. During the procedure, the system creates athree-dimensional live-action, virtual view of the patient's bone surfaceand correlates the image to the pre-programmed surgical plan. As thesurgeon uses the robotic arm, its tactile, acoustic and visual feedbacklimits the bone preparation to the diseased areas and provides for moreoptimal implant positioning, placement and results.
MAKOplasty® is a registered trademark of MAKO Surgical Corp (NASDAQ: MAKO).
