Lockheed Martin Selects LynuxWorks'(TM) LynxOS®-SE 5.0 and Luminosity3.0.6 for Medium Extended Air Defense System (MEADS(TM))

EAL 4 Certifiable Operating System Enables Lockheed Martin to Meet theSecurity and Certification Needs Required by U.S., German and ItalianGovernments

SAN JOSE, CA -- December 02, 2008 -- LynuxWorks(TM), Inc., a worldleader in the embedded software market, today announced that LockheedMartin (NYSE: LMT) has selected LynuxWorks' LynxOS®-SE 5.0 and Luminosity3.0.6 for the company's Medium Extended Air Defense System (MEADS(TM)),which is designed to replace PATRIOT systems in the United States andGermany and Nike Hercules systems in Italy. The two software applicationsprovide companies with a fast and easy way to create, edit, compile, manageand debug system applications.

LynxOS-SE was chosen in part because it is the first and only time- andspace-partitioned, real-time operating system (RTOS) capable of runningPOSIX®, ARINC-653 and Linux applications simultaneously.

LynxOS-SE is a POSIX-conformant RTOS designed specifically to fulfill thestringent needs of multi-threaded and multi-process applications inhigh-performance systems. In its fifth generation, LynxOS-SE now providessecurity enhancements using access control lists (ACLs), roles,capabilities and auditing, a key requirement for medium assuranceapplications with evaluation assurance level 4 (EAL 4).

Lockheed Martin will also utilize Luminosity, a Java(TM)-based integrateddevelopment environment (IDE) that is based on the popular open-sourceEclipse IDE platform. The third generation of Luminosity supports thelatest LynuxWorks operating systems, including LynxOS 5 and LynxOS-SE andprovides a simplified, flexible platform to create, edit, compile, manageand debug embedded and real-time applications. The easy-to-use interfacegives developers easy access to a wide array of both enterprise andembedded plug-in tools to speed development and reduce time to market viathe unique Luminosity Validated Plug-In Program.

When MEADS development is complete, it will provide capabilities beyond anyother fielded or planned air and missile defense system. It will be easilydeployed to a theater of operations and, once there, will keep pace withfast-moving maneuver forces. It will be the only air and missile defensesystem able to roll off tactical transports with troops and almostimmediately begin operations.

More importantly, its open architecture will provide for 21st Century airand missile defense system-of-system integration capabilities that allowoperational mission-tailoring for homeland defense or defense of maneuverforces. MEADS will also provide greater firepower with less manpower thancurrent systems, producing dramatic operation and support cost savings.
