Elias MurrayMetzger Appointed Acting CFO of Avistar Communications

SAN MATEO, Calif., Jan. 5 /PRNewswire-FirstCall/ -- Avistar CommunicationsCorporation (Nasdaq: AVSR), a leader in desktop video communications, todayannounced that Elias MurrayMetzger, 38, has been appointed Acting ChiefFinancial Officer of Avistar effective January 9, 2009. MurrayMetzger, who hasbeen Avistar's worldwide Corporate Controller since January 2006, will reportdirectly to Avistar's Chief Executive Officer, Simon Moss. MurrayMetzger willassume responsibility for the company's worldwide finance and facilitiesorganizations. He replaces Bob Habig who resigned on December 30, 2008 toaccept a new position as CFO and VP of Operations of a venture-backed companyeffective January 9, 2009.

MurrayMetzger brings to Avistar more than 11 years of experience infinancial management, regulatory compliance and operations at technologyorganizations. Prior to joining Avistar, MurrayMetzger served as AssistantController of Centra Software, Inc., a provider of software solutions foronline business communication, collaboration and learning. During his tenureat Centra from April 2004 to January 2006, MurrayMetzger successfullynavigated the company's Sarbanes-Oxley compliance effort and all SEC reportingand compliance functions as the company reached profitability and was sold toSaba, Inc. in February 2006.

Prior to Centra, MurrayMetzger worked for the technology audit practice ofPricewaterhouseCoopers from February 2000 to March 2004. He is a CertifiedPublic Accountant and has a Bachelor of Science in Agribusiness with aconcentration in finance from California Polytechnic State University, SanLuis Obispo.
