WiMAX Forum Announces Two Wireless Industry Veterans Join Management Team

PORTLAND, OR -- (Marketwire) -- 01/09/09 -- The WiMAX Forum® today announced twoexecutive team appointments, including Dr. Roger Marks as vice president oftechnology standards and XJ Wang as senior director of marketing. Withthe addition of Marks and Wang to the management team, the WiMAX Forumorganization adds to the team leading its drive to ensure global adoptionof WiMAX as the broadband solution of choice for 4G among the growingworldwide ecosystem of operators and technology suppliers.

Roger's first impact will be accelerating the time to marketof 802.16m specifications, working hand in hand with our WiMAX Forumtechnical working groups addressing this critical area during our nextmember conference in Orlando next month."

As the vice president of technology standards, Dr. Marks will be pivotal tothe development of key technical specifications in conjunction withstandards development organizations around the world. He will lead theWiMAX Forum Technical Coordination Committee (TCC) to evolve the WiMAXstandards roadmap, ensuring that WiMAX remains the leading technology forMobile Broadband Internet.

Marks joins the WiMAX Forum from NextWave Wireless, where he served assenior vice president of industry relations for over two years, following17 years with the U.S. National Institute of Standards and Technology. Heinitiated the IEEE 802.16 Working Group in 1998 and has chaired the groupsince then, while serving on the IEEE 802 Executive Committee. He is aFellow of the IEEE and served as an IEEE Distinguished Lecturer for sevenyears. Author of more than 90 publications, Dr. Marks has received a numberof professional awards including the 2006 IEEE-SA International Award, the2003 Individual Governmental Vision Award from the Wireless CommunicationsAssociation, and the 1995 IEEE Technical Field Award in measurementtechnology. Dr. Marks earned an A.B. in physics from Princeton University,an M.S.E.E. from the University of Utah, and a Ph.D. in applied physicsfrom Yale University.

In his role as senior director of marketing communications, Wang willoversee the WiMAX Forum's global marketing strategy and execution, andchair the WiMAX Forum's Marketing Working Group (MWG), which comprisesmember companies' marketing leaders. He will develop long term strategicmarketing plans that support the WiMAX Forum vision and core objectives.

Wang joined the WiMAX Forum from The Yankee Group where he was the vicepresident of Asia-Pacific Research and Enabling Technology. In his latestrole with Yankee Group, Wang lead a team of analysts that investigatedmarket and service opportunities and technology connectivity trends in theAsia-Pacific region. Over his 18 year-career, he held other positions atOvum Ltd., Comverse, and other Chinese companies.

Wang is a recognized expert in 3G, WiMAX, mobile advertisement,personalization and recommendation, and mobile value-added services. He hasengaged with leading telecom operators and has been a key program designerand speaker at global WiMAX events. Wang has also provided go-to-marketstrategy, partnership strategy and due diligence service in the Chinesetelecom market. While at Yankee Group, his research focus included marketand technology trends and their impact on the business models for bothoperators and vendors. Wang received his M.S.C.S. from Boston University,his M.S.E.E. from Northeastern University, and his B.S.E.E. from ChongqingUniversity of Post and Telecom, China.
