Exhibition at the Palace of Versailles - Life of Louis XIV

Manchester , United Kingdom (IBwire.com - November 18, 2009) People visiting Paris over the coming months will have the opportunity to attend a major new exhibition at the Palace of Versailles, which is dedicated to the life of Louis XIV.

Running until February 7th 2010, Louis XIV: The Man and the King brings together more than 300 paintings, sculptures and historical artefacts, making it a must for history lovers and those keen to soak up some culture during their stay.

Highlights of the exhibition include a suit of the king's armour, created by Giovanni Battista and Francesco da Garbagnate and Francois Girardon's Louis XIV On Horseback. 

Several items of furniture are also on show, with many being presented in France for the first time since the days of the Ancien Regime.

According to the exhibition's organisers, the collection of objects on display "will enable visitors to get to know the famous monarch better in both his personal tastes and through his public image".

As well as visiting the exhibition, those staying in hotels in Paris - can take time to explore the palace and its stunning grounds.

Chateau de Versailles was declared a Unesco world heritage site 30 years ago and is considered to be one of the finest buildings in Europe.
