Dr. Vadim Tkhor possesses an impressive career with experience working as Hardware Engineer, Senior Scientist, Senior Architecture Designer, and Manager of Hardware Architecture. His wide and solid professional knowledge allowed him to become a lead Harris expert and consultant, developing the strategic directions in video technologies. His specialties include proprietary and standard image/video compression and manipulation, content-based image/video compression, video stream processing, splicing, add insertion and transcoding in compressed domain, image/video editing, computer graphics, digital signal processing and analysis, computer vision and scene interpretation, software and hardware architecture optimization.
Dr. Tkhor is the author of more than 20 publications and 2 patents. He pioneered several unique video technologies, such as video quality equalizer, wavelet – based finger prints compression and recognition, world class nonlinear video scaling, frame rate conversion, content – based image and video browsing and several others. As an established professional Dr. Tkhor is completely devoted to his work yet he still finds time to indulge in reading, writing and translating from Russian to English, poetry in particular, playing guitar and singing, listening to classical music and swimming, where he achieved impressive results on the level of master of sport of the USSR being a holder of the several swimming records of the Republic of Georgia in 200 and 400 meters in free style.
Originally from Georgia, Dr. Tkhor has studied at the Georgian Polytechnic Institute, where he obtained a Master’s Degree in Electrical Engineering. He then studied at the Moscow Institute of Physics and Technology where he graduated from with a Master’s Degree in Computer Science. Dr. Tkhor’s academic career did not stop there as he went on to obtain a PhD in Computer Science, Image and Video Compression for Image Processing from the elite research center of the USSR - Institute for Information Transmission Problems of the Russian Academy of Sciences. Additionally, Dr. Tkhor is a member of various societies and associations including IEEE, Signal Processing, Circuits and Systems, Broadcast Technology, Computer Society, Image Compression, Computer Vision Technologies, Perceptual Video Quality and Pet Friendly, Animal Lovers.
