Two Ukrainian military ships were allegedly attacked by pro-Russian separatists in the Sea of Azov near the town of Novoazovsk, according to the Ukraine-based InfoResist. At least one of the attacks was briefly captured in a video posted on YouTube.

“It appears that a ship has been damaged, I do not know who exactly fired on it and with what,” a Ukrainian military officer who requested anonymity told Reuters. No details were available on the vessel and the number of crew on board.

“The militia have dealt the enemy their first naval defeat,” Igor Strelkov, a separatist military commander who stepped down in mid-August, said on the social-media network VKontakte, Reuters reported.

According to one Twitter user who has followed the conflict closely, six Ukrainian sailors were taken to the hospital after the attack and the number of those died is unknown.
