Meet David
Wall Street Journal Prometheus Ad Mashable

Months before Ridley Scott's highly anticipated Prometheus hits the silver screen, Fox continues to build viral online buzz by releasing a new video and ad for the film.

The most recent two-and-a-half minute video introduces us to Weyland Corporation's robot David, who is played by Michael Fassbender.

The irksome video begins with the introduction of the fictional robotics company. At Weyland Industries, it has long been our goal to create artificial intelligence almost indistinguishable from mankind itself.

We then meet David...

I can make your organization more efficient. I can carry out directives that my human counterparts may find distressing or unethical, the Android says explaining how he can help human companies.

There is an ominous feel the video as the robot goes on to describe what makes him sad, a tear trickling down his eye.

War poverty, cruelty, unnecessary violence. I understand human emotions although I don't feel them myself, he says.

Prometheus is expected to play out as a prequel to Scott's film Alien, according to the Washington Post. Fox has introduced the film's characters through a series of videos.

The latest installment depicts the robot David as a butler, who serves on the ship Prometheus, which transports explorers searching for clues about the origins of mankind.

David is also introduced in a full-page advertisment on the Wall Steet Journal, according to Mashable, and fox has teamed up with Verizon FiOS to provide fans with an online tour of the ship.

The campaign has been successful in building up anticipation towards the film, with its eerie deadpan videos and ads.

The initial video was released in February in a series of TED Talks, where viewers were introduced to Peter Weyland of Weyland Corp.

For those of you who know me, you will be aware by now that my ambition is unlimited. You know that I will settle for nothing short of greatness, or I will die trying, Weyland tells the crowd. For those of you who do not yet know me, allow me to introduce myself: My name is Peter Weyland. And if you'll indulge me, I'd like to change the world, he said.

The full trailer of the film was screened at Wonder Conn and lived streamed on social media outlets such as Facebook and Twitter.

The Viral ad campaign has received a positive response from the public.

Brilliant stuff. Ridley Scott and his team are really doing a wonderful job of creating a world where his story can be told. This is a great example of transmedia storytelling, says Rezagogo in a comment on Mashable. Great Campaign!! I just want to see the movie now, Omar Garcia added.
