The Playstation 4, which launched in North America on Nov. 15, went on to sell over one million units during the first 24 hours of its launch. The console has currently sold over 2.1 million systems internationally. Sony said the PS4’s release is the most profitable Playstation launch in the brand’s history, but the PS4 will continue to go head-to-head in sales with Microsoft's Xbox One.

PS4 users are taking advantage of the device’s online streaming capability. While streaming through services like TwitchTV won’t be available for the Xbox One until 2014, Sony fans are enjoying the use of Twitch and Ustream on the next-gen PS4.

Twitch recently stated that users have streamed over 20 million minutes, or 38 years of gameplay on their consoles. This includes over 7.1 million spectator sessions and 800,000 broadcasts. Twitch also revealed that 10 percent of all content streaming through its own platform has originated from the PS4 since Nov. 15. The most popular streamed games are “Killzone: Shadow Fall,” “Call of Duty: Ghosts” and “Battlefield 4.”

One of the most popular features on the PS4 is the DualShock controller’s “Share” button, which has been accessed more than 10.9 million times. “Playstation 4 is specifically designed so people can share their gaming experiences and interest in streaming live gameplay has surpassed our wildest expectations,” said President of Sony Worldwide Studios Shuhei Yoshida in a statement. Yoshida was also impressed by the use of social media and online communication through the next-gen console. “We’re very excited to see gamers embrace live streaming from their PS4 system and look forward to seeing how Playstation games advance social gaming in the coming years.”
