No one likes cleaning up -- particularly if you're in a hurry and you're running out of a cleaning product but don't have time to go to a store. Sometimes, it's a last-minute project before a party and you need to clean everything before the guests arrive. Don't worry too much because chemistry has you covered. The American Chemical Society has released a new video that tells you how to make your own glass cleaner, remove tough stains and why "spit polish" is really a thing.

When it doubt, turn to vinegar for your cleaning needs. Mix two cups of water, 1/2 cup of vinegar and 1/4 cup of 70 percent rubbing alcohol to create an easy glass cleaner. The acetic acid helps break up mineral deposits on glass while the alcohol helps get rid of dirt and grime. People may think you're crazy when you grab some vodka after a red wine spill, but they'll be in awe after it's cleaned up. The compounds that give red wine its color are alcohol-soluble, which means they get soaked up in the booze and not the carpet. Spit can also be a pretty great cleaning tool for food residue.
