"Last Week Tonight with John Oliver" returned from a one-week break Sunday night to tackle the biggest issue in Europe, in the host's signature comic style. The arrival of hundreds of thousands of refugees since early this year has wrecked havoc on the EU, but the comedian detailed the complexity of the crisis with a touch of humor.

Oliver first addressed the way some leaders are referring to the crisis, noting certain language that might not be helping the situation. For example, describing anything as a "swarm," like British Prime Minister David Cameron did -- even if it's kittens -- makes it seem dangerous.

And then there's the media coverage. Some outlets have fanned fears by linking Muslim refugees with terrorists, Oliver said, showing Exhibit A: a Fox News segment featuring a video clip supposedly of refugees on a train chanting "Allahu Akbar" -- "God is great" in Arabic. The Fox host danced around possible terrorist connections next to the accompanying graphic that read "Terrorists Inbound?" If that weren't bad enough, Oliver revealed the video clip was actually from five years ago.

Each country processes refugees differently, but it generally involves long delays and makeshift shelters -- and sometimes ridiculous paperwork. For example, Oliver showed one registration form that asks a refugee to return to Turkey in 2020. The refugee would be unable to work for five years, which is why hundreds of thousands of refugees are heading to Germany, a fierce proponent of an open-door policy for asylum-seekers, saying it would open its borders to 800,000 people by the end of 2015. Other countries have suggested tighter immigration policies and the construction of walls and fences to limit refugee entry.

Oliver admitted his efforts wouldn't end the refugee crisis, but he did make a difference for one refugee who happened to be a "Days of Our Lives" fan. Watch the "Last Week Tonight with John Oliver" segment below to see how he did it.
