UPDATE 12:00 p.m. EST: Read our "Serial" episode 8 recap here.

Last week on the "Serial" podcast, host Sara Koenig looked at the facts in the case against Adnan, but this week the show once again returns to Jay. After all, his testimony did lead to Adnan's conviction for the murder of his ex-girlfriend, Hae Min Lee. "Serial," episode 8, "The Deal With Jay," could answer some important questions and cast doubt on Adnan's guilt.

In episode 7, "The opposite of the Prosecution," Koenig brings in Deirdre Enright from the Innocence Project to look at the case against Adnan. Koenig was taken aback in the previous episode after she told Adnan he was a "nice guy" and couldn't believe he could kill Hae. The comment annoyed Adnan and Koenig took it upon herself to find more evidence of Adnan's innocence.

With Adnan's case in hand, Enright found little evidence to back a conviction, let alone bringing the case to trial. If anything, Adnan would be a person of interest, according to Enright. "Maybe Adnan had nothing to do with this at all, maybe it was a serial killer. Maybe there’s a clue from another Baltimore cold case. They’re like explorers, headed for a bold new world. Me? I’m gonna stay right here at home with my little garden spade and keep scraping at the thing that confuses me most: Jay," Koenig says to end episode 6.

So what do we know about Jay? We know he and Adnan went to the mall around noon on Jan. 13, 1999. Jay dropped off Adnan at school and had his car and phone throughout the day. Later on, Jay said Adnan called from Best Buy, showed him Hae's body inside the trunk of Hae's car, and the two bury her body in Leakin Park. We know Jay was a drug dealer and together, he and Adnan smoked a lot of pot that day. We know Jay signed an agreement pleading guilty to accessory after the fact to the first degree murder of Hae Min Lee. We know Adnan called Jay "pathetic" in court. We know Jay changed what he told the police several times -- Koenig previously looked at inconsistencies in Jay's story in episode 4 and there is still plenty of speculation about his involvement on Reddit and other sites tracking "Serial." We know we haven't heard from Jay in the first seven episodes.

One Reddit thread looks at what Jay's involvement could be and concludes that Adnan was framed by an unknown individual and used Jay to set this plan in motion. Part of the issue around Jay is that he accepted a plea deal as part of his testimony against Adnan but what completely innocent person would help someone bury a body? That unanswered question is the focus of one Reddit thread while another thread refutes the idea that Jay's inconsistent testimony automatically means Adnan is innocent.

To further tide one over until Thursday, check out the list of crazy theories surrounding the murder of Hae from Mental Floss. On YouTube, Engine House created a handy guide laying out the cell tower records with the testimony of Jay, which can be viewed above.
