“Quantico” Season 2 is going to tear Ryan and Alex apart. The future timeline already revealed their breakup, and the present day story seems to hint at what will cause them to split. The episode 8 synopsis reveals that the divide will only grow.

In episode 7, Ryan (Jake McLaughlin) accepted that he had to torture his teachers, but Alex (Priyanka Chopra) felt there was a line that she couldn’t cross. It ended up working out in Ryan’s favor. He was recruited by the AIC. However, it seems like his personal life will take a down turn as he finds professional success in the midseason finale of the ABC drama.

“At the Farm, Lydia [Tracy Ifeachor] and Owen [Blair Underwood] teach the group about the necessity of lying and cutting off relationships. Perfect timing for Alex, since she is feeling disconnected from Ryan personally and professionally,” the synopsis reveals.

Learning about lying will cause trouble in the future too. Alex has decided to trust Dayana (Pearl Thusi), Harry (Russell Tovey), Leon (Aaron Diaz) and Sesbastian (David Lim). However, can she really trust a group of trained liars? Any of them could be a terrorist, but it’ll be the mission that reveals that true allegiances.

“In the future, Alex and company attempt to destroy the biological weapon,” the synopsis says. Not everyone is on Alex’s side. The promo video reveals that there will be a “shocking betrayal.” Watch the trailer below:

Episode 8 is titled “ODENVY,” and this is one CIA cryptonym that doesn’t reveal too much about the plot. It was a CIA code for the FBI. That’s not too telling, but showrunner Joshua Safran teased a little bit more about the midseason finale. He revealed that a storyline with Raina and Nimah (Yasmine Al Massri) had originally been cut from episode 8, but he put the scenes back in after the election.

“[Producers] Beth [Schacter], Cam [Litvack] and I all woke up the morning after the election — it feels like a year has gone by since it happened — and we all independently had the thought, ‘Why did we cut that story?’” Safran explained to TV Guide. “It’s very much about what’s wrong with this country right now and it was a very powerful scene to film and to write. Yasmine saved the day. That’s all I can say right now. I’ve never put something back into a show this close to air.”

The “Quantico” midseason finale will not air on Nov. 20. ABC will be airing the American Music Awards, so fans will have to wait an extra week for the new episode.

“Quantico” Season 2, episode 8 airs Sunday, Nov. 27 at 10 p.m. EST on ABC.
