Duchess of Cornwall Camilla got a nice surprise for Easter from her mother in law Queen Elizabeth II: a new title!

Queen Elizabeth II has made Camilla a Dame Grand Cross, which is the highest female rank in the Royal Victorian Order.

The BBC reported that Camilla would receive her insignia at a later date. The Queen makes all appointments without consultation from 10 Downing Street, the political heart of England.

The Royal Victorian Order was founded by Queen Victoria in April 1896 to reward those worthy for their personal service to the crown.

Camilla married Prince Charles on April 9, 2005, eight years after Princess Diana's death. The British public has warmed to her despite the initial perception that she poisoned Prince Charles's first marriage. She has become an integral part of the British family in the following years.

As Charles's second wife, the duchess's involvement in royal engagements was gradual. But now, she's often seen at the Queen's side, said BBC correspondent Fiona Trott.

It's likely that Camilla's award is in recognition of her many royal engagements at home and abroad over the past seven years and is an indication of her importance within the Royal family.

The rank comes on the heels of Prince Charles and Camilla seventh wedding anniversary.

Queen Elizabeth II, Princess Eugenie, and Prince Philip attended the annual traditional Easter service at St. George's Chapel in Winsor Castle. Prince William and the Duchess of Cambridge did not attend.
