Queen Elizabeth II and Prince Philip welcomed German president Joachim Gauck to Buckingham Palace Wednesday. The 94-year-old Philip royal has been advised to stay at home by doctors earlier this week. He was again by the side of his wife on Wednesday.

The queen looked relaxed in a white and pink floral dress. Her dress featured long sleeves and high neck. The nonagenarian royal accessorized with small pearl drop earrings and her three-string pearl necklace. Elizabeth also wore a slick of red lipstick.

Philip, who will celebrate his 95th birthday on June 10, looked in better health and handsome in a black suit and tie. Since his wedding to Elizabeth, he has been the longest-serving consort of a reigning British monarch and has stood by his wife’s side always. During the Second World War, the Duke of Edinburgh served as a member of the Royal Navy.

Philip and Elizabeth tied the knot at Westminster Abbey in 1947 when the latter was only 21. The couple are distant cousins and began dating in 1939 when the young princess was just 13. They met during a royal visit to his naval college in Dartmouth and they started to writing letters to each other.

Elizabeth married the dashing young Greek prince in spite of disapproval in royal circles due to his background and the perception that he may be arrogant. Elizabeth and Philip will celebrate their 70th wedding anniversary in November 2017.

Meanwhile, the couple have been photographed at their home in Windsor Castle in a new portrait clicked by renowned photographer Annie Leibovitz in March. The royal couple’s new picture was tweeted by Buckingham Palace on its official Twitter account on Wednesday. This picture and several others were clicked on the occasion of the queen’s 90th birthday in April.

The picture exudes a relaxed vibe and gives a rare glimpse of the couple at their home. The image is one of a series of portraits captured by the photographer. Elizabeth wears a black and white plaid pleated skirt and a white shirt.

She wears a cream cardigan over her blouse. The queen also wears her trusted pair of black shoes and a slick of red lipstick. She accessorizes with a pair of pearl drop earrings, gold watch and ring.

The photo shows the queen and her husband sitting side by side on a sofa while he has his arm placed lovingly on her back as they smile for the camera. Philip looks dapper in a suit and tie. Elizabeth’s outfit is the same that she wore for the iconic photograph with her five great-grandchildren and two youngest grandchildren that was released just a day before her milestone birthday on April 21.

The 90-year-old British monarch also posed in the same outfit for a photograph with her daughter Princess Anne in the White Drawing Room at Windsor Castle. Elizabeth’s outfit suggests that both the images were clicked on the same day.

“The Queen and The Duke of Edinburgh together at Windsor Castle photographed by Annie Leibovitz in March 2016,” reads the caption of the photograph. Three official portraits were released to celebrate the milestone birthday of Elizabeth in April. One showed the monarch with her corgis.
