West African focused gold miner Randgold Resources Plc (RRS.L) said its first-quarter net profit dropped 28 percent from the year earlier as cash costs rose.

Net profit fell to $13.1 million from $18.2 million in the year-earlier quarter.

Attributable production climbed to 110,313 ounces from 103,649 ounces in the year-earlier period, but total cash costs grew to $461 an ounce from $440 an ounce.
