The video game avatar of recently released Baltimore Ravens running back, Ray Rice, will be removed from Electronic Arts’ Madden NFL 15 title, the company announced Tuesday.

"With Ray Rice's indefinite suspension from the NFL, he will be removed from Madden NFL 15," an EA Sports representative told GameSpot. "This roster change will take place by this Friday."

The decision comes after TMZ published a video Tuesday of Rice and his then-fiancée (now wife) Janay Rice fighting in an elevator. Rice knocked Rice unconscious, and did not appear to have much of a reaction to what he did. News of the assault was made public last month, but there were initially some questions about what was involved in the altercation. The NFL suspended Rice for two games, but after the full video was released, the Baltimore Ravens cut Rice from the team entirely. NFL commissioner Roger Goodell later announced Rice was suspended indefinitely from the league.

Madden NFl 15 was released on Xbox One and PlayStation 4 on Aug 26. The football video game franchise is the oldest and most popular, dating back to the 1980s, the Associated Press reported.

This isn’t the first time EA Sports has removed a football player from its virtual roster. In 2013, Aaron Hernandez, the former New England Patriots tight end, was removed from the game after he was charged with murder.
