Real Madrid forward Cristiano Ronaldo equaled Spanish La Liga's scoring record for a single season on Sunday, but claimed he isn't obsessed with scoring.

The Portuguese player scored a brace in Madrid's 3-1 win against Villarreal and in doing so equaled the record of Athletic Bilbao striker Telmo Zarra (1950-50) and Madrid's Hugo Sanchez (1989-90), but the Portuguese claimed he never expected to score that many goals.

He said, I am very happy about equalling Zarra and Hugo Sanchez's record. The truth is I didn't expect to score so many goals this year and I feel honoured to reach two legends like Zarra and Hugo Sanchez.

What really matters is that we earned a great victory at a complicated venue. All of us, coach and players alike, want to have a good end to the season, and we're accomplishing this so far.

I would like to score even more goals against Almeria, but I'm not obsessed about it. I've tried to score from set pieces many times this year, but had been unlucky until now.

Ronaldo, with 38 goals so far, is followed by Messi, with 31 goals, in the league's scoring charts.
