Real Madrid Transfer Rumors: Queens Park Rangers Keeper Julio Cesar Replacement for Iker Casillas?

The Bernabeu are looking at Queens Park Rangers goalkeeper Julio Cesar, according to the Daily Mirror.

Casillas suffered the injury after defender Alvaro Arbeloa inadvertently kicked him during Madrid’s 1-1 result in the second leg of the Copa del Rey quarterfinal against Valencia on Wednesday night. Casillas has made 31 saves and has conceded 17 goals in 19 starts this season.

Mourinho will go with reserve keeper Antonio Adan in the semifinals next week against Barcelona, but Julio Cesar could be a better replacement for when Madrid faces Manchester United next month during Champions League play.

"The Special One" admitted publicly that a La Liga title appears out of the club's grasp, and instead will have his squad focus on the Copa del Rey and Champions League. Snatching up Julio Cesar would only affirm those statements.

Julio Cesar would cost Madrid around £4.4 million but according to the Mirror, QPR is also willing to part with goalkeeper Robert Green, as long as they get another goalkeeper in return.

At 33 years old, Cesar has made 64 appearnces with the Brazilian national team since 2003, and has started 15 games this season for the last place Rangers, making 62 saves and allowing 21 goals.

Cesar joined QPR during last August’s transfer period, after spending nearly eight seasons with Inter Milan, including some time with Mourinho. He was also linked to moves to Arsenal and Manchester United earlier this week.
