KEY POINTS

  • Realme is launching a new smartphone
  • The X3 SuperZoom boasts of a slew of camera features rivalling high-end devices
  • It is significantly cheaper than top-tier handsets

Today's smartphones compete against one another in terms of camera capabilities. Some handsets offer distant hybrid zoom capabilities. Some smartphones offer excellent night photography features. Most of these, however, are very expensive for the average consumer.

Enter Realme. This smartphone company launching a new handset called the X3 SuperZoom for less than the usual cost of getting a flagship device from, say, Samsung or Apple. Despite the cheaper price tag, it offers a slew of features that will interest many, particularly those who love to take photos day and night. Here's a quick lookat some of the handset's features:

5X Optical Zoom

The X3 SuperZoom features an 8MP periscope camera that allows for up to 5X optical zoom. This camera works with a 64MP ultra high-res wide-angle sensor and an 8MP ultra wide-angle lens to capture great shots even from 100 meters away. Optical Image Stabilization (OIS) means optically zoomed-in shots will be stable, even from a distance.

60X Super Zoom

Realme's X3 SuperZoom claims to offer 60 times “Super Zoom.” This is hybrid zoom, which sits between actual optical zoom and digital zoom. Android Authority is wary of this kind of zoom, but the X3 SuperZoom product page will give users a glimpse of what to expect from the feature, which won't be that bad for those who aren't expecting much.

Starry Mode

Realme equipped the X3 SuperZoom with a “Starry Mode” to allow for breathtaking shots of the night sky, complete with stars and everything in space. This feature seems designed to take on the Pixel's astrophotography mode. Realme said this feature uses “AI algorithm combined with ultra-long exposure and multi-frame synthesis engine” to capture starry night sky images.

Super Nightscape

Starry Mode allows for night sky shots. Super Nightscape 4.0, on the other hand, works with AI to switch between “Super” and “Ultra” Nightscape mode for images taken in dimly-lit settings.

Aside from these photography features the Realme X3 SuperZoom also has a slew of other interesting offers for consumers:

  • A Snapdragon 855+ chipset for fast processing speed at lower prices
  • 12GB of RAM for multitasking and 256GB of UFS 3.0 storage
  • 32MP dual in-display selfie cameras, led by a Sony IMX616 sensor
  • 6.6-inch FHD+ display with 120Hz refresh rate
  • 4,200mAh battery with 30W “Dart” charging
  • Liquid cooling

Realme is selling the X3 SuperZoom from prices starting at €499 (about $547).
