Oscar-winning actress Reese Witherspoon was struck by a car while she was jogging on Georgina Avenue at 20th Street on Wednesday.

Witherspoon was hit by a car being driven by an 84-year-old woman, resident of Santa Monica, at the speed of 20 miles an hour.

Witherspoon, 35, suffered minor injuries and was transported by an ambulance to a local hospital for medical treatment. She was released subsequently.

At 11:14 A.M., officers from the Santa Monica police department responded to the Georgina Avenue. The driver was interviewed at the location and released after being cited for failing to yield to a pedestrian in a crosswalk, a violation of California Vehicle Code section 21950(a).

Witherspoon, who is known for her performances in movies such as Legally Blonde, Sweet Home Alabama, received worldwide attention and praise for her portrayal of June Carter Cash in Walk the Line, which earned her an Academy Award, Golden Globe, BAFTA and Screen Actors Guild Award for Best Actress in a Leading Role.

Witherspoon, who married talent agent Jim Toth in March, has recently returned from a vacation with her new husband, and her daughter and son from first marriage -- Ava Elizabeth and Deacon Reese.
