WARNING: “REIGN” SPOILERS AHEAD!

“Reign” is in for some royal drama when the show returns from its holiday hiatus on Thursday, Jan. 23. For those who don’t remember, the midseason finale concluded with Mary running off with Bash (not in a romantic way, unfortunately) after learning of Nostradamus’ prophecy that Francis would die. To further complicate things, Francis was completely unaware of the prophecy and believed that Mary fled the castle to be with his half-brother.

“Reign” fans have been dying to know how long Bash and Mary will be on their own and how Francis will feel about the betrayal … and now we finally have some answers thanks to a leaked synopsis for the midseason premiere.

When episode 9, “For King and Country,” airs on Thursday, Jan. 23, Mary and Bash will still be out on their own. However, their time away from the castle will be short lived. Captured and forced to return to Francis and King Henry, Mary and Bash will be in for quite a surprise when they arrive.

The initial assumption would be that Queen Catherine is ecstatic with Mary’s decision to not marry Francis and flee the grounds. That somehow seems to be the opposite of how she feels though, and Mary discovers that Catherine is “even more determined to keep Mary and Francis apart.”

Fortunately for Mary, Catherine will have to be stealthier about her actions because Francis is now aware of the prophecy -- and could care less that his marriage would seal his fate. According to the synopsis, Francis’ determination to wed Mary will change everything -- “in politics, tearing the bond of brothers apart, and hardening Catherine’s resolve destroy Mary at any cost.”

The twist in events can lead “Reign” viewers to question if Francis still wants to wed Mary because he’s in love with her … or because he doesn’t want to see her with Bash. Regardless of his decision, it also leads fans to wonder if Catherine’s actions and Mary’s decision to leave with Bash are the true influence in Nostradamus’ prophecy.

The midseason premiere of “Reign” will air on the CW on Thursday, Jan. 23, at 9 p.m. Will you be watching episode 9, “For King and Country”? Let us know your thoughts in the comments section or send a tweet to @AmandaTVScoop.
