“Reign” fans were left with their jaws on the floor after episode 16, “Monsters.” All season long, the CW series has been teasing fans about a Mary (Adelaide Kane), Bash (Torrance Coombs) and Francis (Toby Regbo) love triangle. But at the end of “Monsters” they threw in a major twist – marrying Bash off to Mary’s handmaiden and best friend, Kenna (Caitlin Stasey)!

The move, which came from a crazed King Henry (Alan Van Sprang), shocked not only fans, but the French court as well. Neither Kenna or Bash was happy with the forced arrangement, but according to Adelaide Kane, it was the exact opposite reaction off screen.

“When we read that, I know Caitlin did a little happy dance because she loves Torrance to pieces,” Kane dished to Access Hollywood. “She was like, (sings) ‘I get to spend all my time with you!’ which was hysterical and those two are such goofs, like I can only imagine how much fun they have on set together. But we were all like, ‘What?’ But it did make kind of like beautiful sense. It was sort of a perfect pairing when you think about it.”

Why would Kane say that about Kenna and Bash – two characters who seem to be repulsed by each other? Because the pair are “both very strong-minded, independent characters.”

“Reign” fans can’t deny that both Kenna and Bash go for what they want. For Kenna that was King Henry and a place next to him on the throne. As for Bash, it was simply a life with Mary – no matter the circumstances. Unfortunately both failed in getting what they wanted, but the two didn’t just give up. They continued fighting … which is how they got thrown into the whole marriage situation.

Francis is bound to be happy with his brother’s marriage. But does Mary feel the same way?

“Initially, there is a reasonable amount of tension caused by interaction between Bash and Mary, in Mary’s marriage and in Sebastian’s marriage to Kenna,” Kane explained. “There’s a bit of adjusting that needs to happen.”
