Hours later, according to the Des Moines Register, Sorenson appeared at a Ron Paul rally announcing his endorsement. Sorenson was first elected to Iowa's state senate in 2010, in part due to support from Paul. Announcing his Paul endorsement at the rally Wednesday before a crowd estimated at 500, the news was greeted with robust applause.

Oil prices have risen recently over concern about tensions in the Middle East. Iran has threatened to close the vital Strait of Hormuz. Some one-third of all global oil tankers travel through the Strait of Hormuz, near Iran. On Tuesday, the prices of oil jumped more than $1 when Iran threatened to cut off the vital shipping route. On Wednesday, U.S. crude dropped slightly by 57 cents per gallon, to $100.77.

The ticket was bought at King Kullen store in Middle Island. For the New York resident that purchased the ticket, it was a belated Christmas gift worth $208 million from Tuesday night's Mega Millions drawing as it matched all six numbers.

It is the second time this year that a ticket sold in New York hit a Mega Millions jackpot worth more than $200 million. The last one came in June, when 20 co-workers from a Long Island Costco store split a $201.9 million price in the multi-state lottery.

Talk of closing the Strait of Hormuz is generally seen as an empty threat from Iran. The U.S. State Department said it saw an element of bluster in the threat. Yet it has been made before and since nearly one-third of all tanker traffic passes through the Strait of Hormuz the concern lingers. Most, however, don't seem to think Iran could or would pull it off, for long anyway.
