Rihanna may come from Barbados, but her first language isn't Bajan – it's tweets!

After a flurry of gossip yesterday – are her and Chris Brown back on?? did Ashton ditch her??? – Rihanna dropped some subtle clues about her relationship with Chris Brown. Last night she posted four tweets in particular (sandwiching an innocuous one about a friend's birthday):

The earlier two retweets seem like obvious messages to Chris – if you hadn't beat me, you'd still be with me. But of course we have reason to be skeptical: TMZ claimed shortly after their musical reunion that Rihanna was the one who was desperate to take back Chris, and that she would have done it long ago if it hadn't been for the public outcry against the relationship.

As for the two most recent tweets, these seem more honest. The one that reads next time I should lie, the truth is inconvenient seems like an allusion to the bad press (which, as always, hasn't hurt her radio play and album sales) she's gotten for the rumored romantic reunion, to say nothing of Jay-Z's punishment – that is, when he yanked R.I.P. from her and gave it to Rita Ora, despite the fact that it was supposedly written by Drake specifically for her.

And then there's the most recent, just in case you didn't get the first three: I'm a selfish girl when it comes to you. Hmm, that wouldn't happen to have anything to do with Chris Brown's current girlfriend Karrueche Tran? Rihanna's been going hard at the girl online, even mocking her Vietnamese heritage in song (Sweeter than a rice cake...) and tweet (the infamous rice cakes-dressed-as-Karrueche tweet).

Normally interpreting tweets and retweets is a difficult game – after all, there's a lot of room for opinions when it comes to an oblique 140-character tweet. But in this case, Rihanna's making our job easy!
