‘Riverdale’
How will Archie (KJ Apa) and Veronica’s (Camila Mendes) and Betty (Lili Reinhart) and Jughead’s (Cole Sprouse) relationships evolve in “Riverdale” Season 2? The CW

The cast of “Riverdale” Season 2 recently sat down for an interview following the 2017 San Diego Comic-Con panel.

Talking to TV Line, cast members KJ Apa and Camila Mendes dished on Archie and Veronica’s relationship and said that Fred’s (Luke Perry) shooting will affect their bond positively. However, Apa and Mendes confirmed that the two characters will still engage in sex in the upcoming installments.

“In Season 1 we were very, like, physical couple. And then now, because of everything that’s going on in Archie’s life, Veronica is stepping up and being more like a girlfriend. It’s still going to be 10 times more sexual, but also, like, there’s going to be substance to it,” Mendes said.

Meanwhile, Cole Sprouse and Lili Reinhart, who play the roles of Jughead and Betty, revealed that their characters will struggle with their relationship. Now that Jughead is a member of the Southside Serpents, Betty will also worry about her boyfriend’s life. Sprouse said that there’s going to be “a huge mess of trouble” between the two characters.

“Jughead is entering into an entirely new world… and it forces change out of him. But knowing the writers’ history of trying to make Jughead the saddest kid on the block, I can only assume that there’s going to be sadness,” Sprouse said.

Meanwhile, TV Line writer Andy Swift talked about his favorite Betty moments and said that one of them was when she pressed her nails into her palm until it bled. “Betty is emotionally disturbed and you wouldn’t expect it from her. She was very unexpected because she is so perfect on the outside or tries to be. It was important talking to Roberto about Season 2 that we address that,” Reinhart said.

Reinhart also said that Cheryl’s (Madelaine Petsch) suicide attempt in Season 1 will be addressed in Season 2. According to Petsch, she feels that Cheryl realized that she still wanted to live and that’s exactly what she did.

Riverdale” Season 2 also stars Casey Cott as Kevin, Mark Consuelos as Hiram, Marisol Nichols as Hermione, Madchen Amick as Alice and more. The CW series will return Oct. 11 at 9 p.m. EDT.
