“Riverdale” star Cole Sprouse recently dished on his character’s fate in the upcoming second season of the hit The CW series.

In an interview with TV Line, Sprouse confirmed that the upcoming episodes will be much darker and stranger compared to Season 1. His character, Jughead, who is now an official member of the Southside Serpents, will also go through a 180-degree change.

“I think the whole show is going to be getting darker and stranger. We’re going to be leaning into a lot of those qualities that a lot of people ended up loving in the first couple of episodes – this heavy cinematography, this overbearing coloration, this really dark content that’s kind of over-the-top and campy, but it’s taken very seriously,” he said.

Sprouse also shared his thoughts on his first ever love scene on television. When asked what it was like, the actor said that he and his co-star, Lili Reinhart, didn’t feel nervous going into their intimate scene. “We are professionals. And I was excited, so it was great,” he said.

Sprouse is also happy with the positive reactions he and Reinhart have received for playing the roles of Jughead and Betty. In the series, Jughead and Betty are a couple who have stuck with each other despite their recent struggles. “I think that the key is that it feels honest and real. Both of those kids are going through an absolute whirlwind in terms of the things they’ve seen and done over the last season, so I think, I hope that they can just work through whatever is thrown at them in a way that it feels genuine and communicative,” he said.

“Riverdale” Season 2 will return to The CW sometime in the fall. Ahead of its release, series creator Roberto Aguirre-Sacasa has already announced the official titled for episode 1. “Chapter Fourteen: A Kiss Before Dying” was written by Aguirre-Sacasa himself, and by the looks of it, one character could be killed off in the premiere.

In the finale episode for Season 1, Archie’s (KJ Apa) dad, Fred (Luke Perry), fought for his life after being shot by a masked man. As of late, it is still unclear whether or not he will survive.
