Veronica’s (Camila Mendes) dad, Hiram Lodge (Mark Conseulos), will be introduced very early on in “Riverdale” Season 2.

While speaking with Entertainment Weekly, executive producer Roberto Aguirre-Sacasa described Hiram as a family man who loves his wife and daughter very much. However, the Lodge patriarch also has a dark past. He was involved with bad people and was sent to prison for quite some time.

“But there’s no denying that we’ve built up someone who has very dark dealings and who has a criminal past. He’s not like the Serpents, who are a street-level gang. He’s operating at a much higher level and has tentacles everywhere. The question is: Is Hiram truly reformed? What does he want? How does Veronica figure into his plans? How will Archie figure into his plans?” he said.

By the looks of it, the mystery surrounding Hiram’s arrival will be one of the main storylines in “Riverdale” Season 2. There are also some speculations suggesting that Hiram may have something to do with Fred’s (Luke Perry) shooting. In Season 1, Fred was linked to Hiram’s wife, Hermione (Marisol Nichols), while he was still in prison. Even though Fred stopped his romantic relationship with Hermione, it’s highly possible that someone from Riverdale spilled the information to Hiram.

Meanwhile, another major storyline in Season 2 would have something to do with Betty (Lili Reinhart) and Jughead’s (Cole Sprouse) relationship. The latter recently agreed to become part of the Southside Serpents, and Betty is not pleased with his decision. But according to Aguirre-Sacasa, Betty will do everything she can to make her relationship with Jughead work.

“The fear Betty has is Jughead is going to be sucked into this world that has nothing to do with Betty – he might be going to a new school, living with a new family in a different part of town, he’s joined this gang. All I’ll tease is Betty is not someone who gives up easily. She’s probably the strongest of the kids. If she’s going to start losing Jughead, which may happen, she’s going to fight for him,” he told Entertainment Weekly.

“Riverdale” Season 2 will premiere on The CW on Oct. 11 at 8 p.m. EDT.
