Now that the shock surrounding the Kristen Stewart scandal is beginning to subside, "Twilight" execs are hoping that the 22-year-old and her co-star/ex-boyfriend Robert Pattinson, 26, can patch things up before the premiere of "Breaking Dawn: Part 2." But they are preparing for plan B just in case.

Since Stewart was snapped getting cozy with Rupert Sanders (her "Snow White and the Huntsman" director and married father of two), she has been branded a "home wrecker" and "trampire." Aside from backlash, her affair has put the "Twilight" empire in jeopardy.

According to the New York Post, Summit Entertainment (SETG) hopes that the beloved couple will reunite and therefore alleviate the PR nightmare now associated with the franchise.

"The studio's holding out to see if they get back together. But I don't think anyone is banking on that happening," a source told the outlet. "At this point, the press strategy would have been mapped out. It's usually very organized, but at this time it's undecided."

Entertainmentwise is reporting that Summit intends to thrust other cast members into spotlight as a means of detracting from the Pattinson-Stewart soap opera. This includes Ashley Greene, who has a supporting role in the saga. Should K-Stew bow out of her promotional duties or should she and Pattinson opt to do press separately, Greene will likely occupy the spotlight. This was the case last October when Stewart was busy filming "Snow White." Greene joined Pattinson for the French and Belgian premiere of "Breaking Dawn: Part1."

After her disastrous turn in "The Apparition," a cinematic abomination, Greene could use the positive attention. Yet based on some stubborn rumors, the actress's relationship with Pattinson and Stewart is far more complicated than fans expect.

Last year, The Improper purported that Greene and Pattinson were romantically involved while an alleged insider recently told Jezebel that the two were once hot and heavy. A blind item featured on Crazy Days and Nights maintains that Pattinson engaged in trysts with Greene while he was dating Stewart.

In 2010 interview with the Daily Mail, Greene enthusiastically praised Pattinson.

"Robert Pattinson, who plays my adoptive brother in the 'Twilight' films, has been one of my biggest inspirations," Greene said. "As a person, he's not like anyone I've ever met in Hollywood, and as an actor he's a complete natural. He has no ego.

"Everyone loves him, but he's unaffected by that and never seems fazed by the attention that comes his way."

Coincidentally, Greene actually auditioned to play Pattinson's love interest (Bella Swan) before Stewart was selected for the role.

"I originally auditioned for Bella, and so I read the first book and kind of fell in love with it," she told Saturday Night Magazine in 2009. "I went in and auditioned and actually they called me back in and said, 'No, you're not right for Bella,' so I was bummed, and then they brought me back for Alice."

It's still unclear whether or not Greene will be the center of attention once "Breaking Dawn" is released but reports of a Robsten reunion could shatter that.

On Tuesday, the Daily Mail alleged that they are planning a face-to-face meeting. If there's any truth to that rumor, it's possible that the pair could reconcile before "Breaking Dawn's" massive promotional tour.
