The action in “The Fate of the Furious” may be the work of movie magic but franchise newcomer Celestino Cornielle says the drama on set the eighth “Fast and Furious” installment was all real.

When asked to comment on the highly publicized feud between stars Vin Diesel and Dwayne “The Rock” Johnson, Cornielle told International Business Times the tension was noticeable. “I think that anytime you get such mega stars together usually there will be that initial conflict,” Cornielle explained.

“Co-creation is when many minds come together to do one thing and the natural process of that requires that you go through a certain level of conflict because you’re bringing together these beings with incredible passion about what they’re doing and through that conflict is where the magic emerges.”

While two of the film’s biggest stars had their issues making “The Fate of the Furious,” Cornielle said he encountered no problems with his cast members, despite being new to the franchise.

“You really don’t know what to expect and the experience can be very much like you’re the new kid in school and we all know how uncomfortable that can be, but I've got to tell you with this project, it was totally different,” he told IBT. “You hear Vin speak about family and stuff like that. I felt like family.”

Cornielle, who plays a new character named Raldo in the film, says he also bonded with Michelle Rodriguez and director F. Gary Gray, who campaigned for him to get the part of Cuba’s car-racing kingpin over Pitbull. “I was embraced,” Cornielle explained. “The experience you have when you haven’t seen a good friend in a long time and then you guys get together and you pick up where you left it, that’s how it was.”

Like on set, the eighth “Fast and the Furious” film will see a strain put on the main characters when it hits theaters Friday.

“It is a film where ties and relationships are tested,” Cornielle teased. “Like all the other installments there is big car races, chases and explosions and action but different from the rest, this one really digs into strains that are placed in each relationship.”
