Rolling Stones guitarist Ronnie Wood was arrested by British police late on Wednesday on suspicion of assault and released on bail after questioning on Thursday.

Surrey police said the 62-year-old rock star was arrested in Claygate, Surrey in southern England on suspected assault in connection with a domestic incident. He was released until a date in January pending further inquiries.

Wood's spokesman added: I can confirm that there was an incident last night and that Ronnie Wood was arrested. He has since been released on police bail. We have no further statement to make at this time.

Wood separated from his wife Jo in 2008 and their divorce was formally sealed in court last month on the grounds of his admitted adultery. The couple had been married for 24 years and they had two children.

Divorce documents made public did not name the person with whom the star committed adultery. Wood has had a widely reported relationship with Russian Ekaterina Ivanova.
